NUR-SULTAN – Kazakh cultural diplomacy continues to make great strides with the 175th anniversary of Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Kunanbayev. Japanese readers can now get a closer connection with Kazakh culture in their native language through books on Abai’s works at national libraries and educational institutions in Japan.
Signal copies of the Anthologies of contemporary Kazakh literature, both prose and poetry, have been published into the six official UN languages. The project has been carried out under the «Modern Kazakh Culture in the Global World» programme, aimed at introducing to the world Kazakh literature and culture since its independence, Kazinform has learnt from the Kazakh Embassy in the UK.
Work is nearly complete to translate anthologies of modern Kazakh prose and poetry into Arabic, English, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish for distribution in 70 countries. The authors and translators met recently to finish the venture.
The Kazakh National Translation Bureau is working on translating internationally recognised textbooks in social sciences and humanities into the Kazakh language in accordance with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s state-of-the-nation address. Based on their work during two years, the bureau is developing the online platform Kazakh Open University (OpenU) to make the books available for Kazakhstan citizens.
As a part of the Contemporary Kazakh Culture in a Global World project, the Kazakh National Translation Bureau is facilitating the translation of Kazakh literature into the Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish and Russian languages.
In frames of a project, Modern Kazakhstan culture in the global world under the Rukhani Zhangyru program Anthology of modern Kazakh poetry and Anthology of modern Kazakh prose will be translated into Spanish.
In July 9, the University of Cambridge (Great Britain) held the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the National Commission for the implementation of the Rukhani zhangyru programme and the publishing house of Cambridge University for the project on translating, publishing and promoting an anthology of contemporary Kazakh literature into the English language, BNews.kz correspondent reports.
In April 2017, a policy article «Course towards the future: modernisation of Kazakhstan’s identity» by President Nursultan Nazarbayev was published. Among many, there is one specific project called New Humanitarian Knowledge. 100 New Textbooks in the Kazakh Language, which envisages the translation and introduction of the best international educational literature into the programmes of Kazakh universities.
